Welcome to Startup Pulse - newsletter edition

Your first dose of news, reviews and reactions of startups and scaleups

Intro

It is finally here! Your written edition of Startup Pulse by Startup Sensei. If you’ve never listened to the podcast - welcome! If you’re a regular, we’re glad you’re back 😎

You’ll be getting your Startup Pulse each week, seeing the latest and greatest in the tech space!

We’re not trying to be a traditional news source, you’ll be getting news, reviews and reactions of startups and scaleups across our newsletter, podcast and socials!

News Pulse

First up, your news pulse! A lot of layoff news, so we didn’t want to be too heavy on that for this issue - just the high level info!

  • Tesla have reported their first YoY sales decline in 4 years, another red flag that the EV industry is still struggling to find traction, even with the increase in supply.

  • Orka Technology Group have been in administration a couple weeks now, with little hope of revival

  • Spotify is looking at raising prices across a variety of countries: UK, Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Ghana, then US later this year - clawing back after their recent layoffs

Fundraising Pulse

You can find a lot more about the mega-rounds and funding of more established scaleups, so you’ll likely (hopefully!) see lots of new companies here.

  • US-based BurnBot raised $20M Series A led by ReGen Ventures. They intend to use the funds to expand their mechanised vegetation management and fuel treatment solutions to combat destructive wildfires

  • Sparxell raised $3.2M to further their development of plant-based pigments, aiming to eliminate the use of synthetic chemicals from colourants in the multi-billion dollar markets of paint, packaging, fashion and cosmetics.

  • Metyos have secured a €2.3M pre-seed to fund their progress through clinical trials ahead of seeking regulatory approval. The French MedTech is looking to advance the treatment of chronic kidney disease patients worldwide with their wearable sensor and disease management platform.

The startups in the ‘mundane’ or unsexy parts of tech will be the biggest disruptors to the tech space in 2024 and 2025
